T2TC leverages AWS to Monitor Hospital Assets in Real-Time

The T2TC (Time 2 Track Care) solution leverages the capabilities of AWS to track thousands of assets in real-time, meeting business growth, improving nursing efficiencies while reducing operational costs.
T2TC worked closely with its partners to develop and implement the serverless Smart Healthcare Platform (SHP) based on AWS services. The solution streams asset data from Bluetooth sensors on medical beds and other devices through the AWS IoT Core and Amazon Kinesis. The SHP solution uses AWS Lambda for processing events and scaling quickly in a cost-effective way. The data is stored in Amazon Aurora and Amazon DynamoDB databases, and the solution complies with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
Nurses and other hospital workers use smartphones, tablets, or PCs to access the data through a web-based application built using advanced REST APIs.  Customers have the ability to access data thru a simple web interface.   In addition, the SHP uses machine learning algorithms to analyze asset utilization and enable predictive maintenance.
Tracking Thousands of Medical Assets in Real Time
With the SHP solution, hospitals can take advantage of AWS Lambda to process thousands of events in seconds. Using the Smart Healthcare Platform on AWS, hospitals can easily track and monitor beds, patient movement, wheelchairs, and other inventory while sensing refrigerator temperatures and air quality,  As a result, they can take action and make more-educated decisions about asset allocation. For example, by identifying exactly where a bed is located in a hospital, they can better divide the hospital space based on actual use.
Scaling Quickly to Support Business Growth
The solution has now been implemented in 10 hospitals, and the company plans to expand in coming months.
Focusing on improved functionality, efficiencies, and scale

  • Running our business on AWS has allowed us to bring a non-disruptive solution to market that is up to 75 percent more affordable than other tracking solutions.
  • Because of the AWS architecture design,  the SHP solution automatically scales based on demand.
  • This approach has allowed us to focus on the solution’s functionality, and not being bogged down with the backend management.
  • Hospitals using the SHP solution improves nurse scheduling efficiencies by leveraging the comprehensive analysis provided by SHP.
  • As a startup, we were able to quickly launch our business and add functionality that larger companies could not provide.
